Raw Apple Crisp

This deliciously wholesome Raw Apple Crisp is a perfect blend of fresh apples and warm spices, creating a delightful treat that’s both nutritious and satisfying. The filling features crisp, chopped apples (left unpeeled for extra fiber and flavor) mixed with a tangy combination of dried fruits, orange juice, and lemon juice. A sprinkle of cinnamon and ginger enhances the natural sweetness of the fruit.

The crumble topping is a crunchy mixture of your favorite nuts and dried fruits, seasoned with cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg for a cozy, spiced finish. Uncooked oats can be added for extra texture if desired. The recipe is simple to prepare: just toss the filling ingredients together, blend the crumble in a food processor, and layer it all in a dish. Raw Apple Crisp

  • 8 apples, cored and chopped into bite-sized pieces (do not peel)
  • ¼ cup dried fruit: raisins, cranberries, chopped apricots and/or dates
  • ¼ – ½ cup orange juice with pulp (for desired    consistency)
  • 2 Tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger

Crumble

  • 1 ½ cups nuts (any combination: pecans,    hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds, cashews)
  • ¾ cup dried fruit: raisins, cranberries, chopped    apricots and/or dates
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup uncooked oats (optional)

Crumble:

  1. In a food processor, combine all crumble ingredients; pulse just until chopped and combined.

Filling: 

  1. Put all filling ingredients in an 8-inch square baking dish or 2-quart casserole dish.

  2. Add half of the crumble mixture to the apples mixture, toss to combine. Smooth the top to level.

  3. Spoon the other half of the crumble mixture evenly over the apple mixture and serve at room-temperature. Optional: heat in 300° oven until warm and serve.
